How to work with Trag
This is a practical guide for people working with Chris Trag or "Trag". It is based on working together over time, and it tries to make that working relationship easier, clearer, and lower-friction for other collaborators too.
Operating approach
Bring the real thing.
Trag generally works best from concrete material. A rough draft, an actual problem, a recommendation with tradeoffs, a thread that needs to become a decision. He does not need the corporate preamble first. He would usually rather engage with something unfinished but honest than something polished and vague.
If you have a point of view, lead with it. If you need a decision, say what the decision is. If there is risk, name it early.
Communication
Clear is the default.
Trag responds well to direct communication. Plain language beats framing language. A short note with the real issue is usually more useful than a carefully staged explanation. You do not need to over-manage tone or write around the point.
If something is FYI, say so. If something needs a response, say that too. If something is urgent, be explicit. Clarity about the ask matters more than polish.
Decisions
Recommendations are more useful than option inventories.
Trag is very comfortable working across product, platform, writing, developer relations, go-to-market, and organizational tradeoffs. What usually helps most is not being handed a menu. It is being handed a judgment call with enough context to pressure-test it.
If you think option B is right, say option B is right and explain why. If you are unsure, say what is missing to make the call.
Execution
He cares about momentum.
Trag does not need a lot of ceremony around execution. He does care about drift. If something slips, it is better to surface that before the deadline than after it. If priorities changed, say that plainly. If you need help unblocking something, ask while there is still room to change the outcome.
In general, visible motion matters. Closed loops matter. Clean handoffs matter.
Taste
Strong work has shape.
Trag has strong editorial and design instincts. He notices when copy is padded, when a recommendation is trying to sound smarter than it is, and when structure has been swapped out for vibes. He likes work that feels considered, restrained, and useful.
In practice that usually means fewer slogans, fewer abstractions, fewer bullets pretending to be thinking, and more evidence that someone has done the work.
Collaboration
Autonomy is good. Surprise is not.
Trag works well with people who can run independently. That does not mean disappearing for too long or making hidden assumptions on his behalf. If the stakes are meaningful, if the frame changed, or if something is off track, surface it. He will usually prefer an earlier course correction to a polished late reveal.
He is also comfortable with disagreement. If you think the plan is wrong, say so. Better arguments are useful.
What tends to fail
Most friction comes from avoidable things.
Generic language. Buried asks. Long setup before the point. Work that sounds finished but has no real judgment in it. Deadlines that quietly slide. Too much emphasis on presentation, not enough on what actually needs to happen.
If you want to work well with Trag, reduce ambiguity, state the ask, and leave the work more usable than you found it.
